Plenty of progress to report this time, too, mostly in the "new books" section, which is now completely full. I need to reread more!

New Books
-Sam Bourne, The Righteous Men.
-Kate Summerscale, The Suspicions of Mr Whicher.
-Anne Finch, Selected Poems.
-Virgina Woolf, A Room of One's Own.
-L. Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

Rereads
-E. Nesbit, The Railway Children.

Okaaay, haven't updated this in ages. Not linking to reviews this time: if you're interested, check the "reviews" tag here.

No picture this time, either, 'cause I'm lazy.

Cut for extreme length )

The Plan:
Read my own height (~5'4"/1.5m) again.
The Rules:
1. This must include only books owned before 01/11/2009.
2. There are only two sections: "rereads" and "new".

This is in an effort to clear my shelves a bit faster! Hence the relative lack of rules. I don't even have to review anything, though I probably will, just read it.
wilderthan: ((Books) Stack)
Long time no post! I've been holding off on posting 'cause I was so very, very close to the end. Now I've made it. I've read my own height (and a tiny bit more). I already have my next challenge in mind -- and indeed, some books read for it, if I decide they count -- but first I need to formally finish this one.

[personal profile] iltaru is still working on hers, of course. If you want to keep following her progress, catch her on the comms.

Sorry I didn't update last week! I wasn't in flandom, and it was a weird week. I haven't been reading that much anyway, to my disgust... I did read some other stuff, but they were children's books so I didn't count them.

I just moved in with my new flatmate, [personal profile] iltaru. If you're already on my [personal profile] shanaqui flist, then you have seen all the pictures and dorkery, and you have also already seen this. But this is an Official Rules Post.

The Plan:
Read our own height (~5'4"/1.5m) each.
The Rules:
1. Floor to knee: must read new books, i.e. ones we haven't read before.
2. Knee to hip: anything goes.
3. Hip to shoulder: serious stuff, i.e. non-fiction, literature, poetry, plays. (Joy's says "Sirius stuff" because she has a character called Sirius.)
4. Shoulder to top of head: unexpected stuff, i.e. stuff we wouldn't have thought to read otherwise. This one is going to be awkward for the two of us: we have long and varied careers in reading.
5a. Joy can only reread a book if she hasn't read it in two years.
5b. I can only reread a book if I intend to do a new review.
6. The challenge ends 1st February 2010.
Picture:
Here.
We currently have only interim charts up: I will update with progress pictures in the future, and hopefully we will realise our dreams of nicely colourful charts.

Progress:
(* indicates a reread.)

[personal profile] wilderthan:
Hip to shoulder:
-Great Expectations, Charles Dickens.
Shoulder to top of head:
-Fingersmith, Sarah Waters.

[personal profile] iltaru:
Floor to knee:
-The Demon's Lexicon, Sarah Rees Brennan.
Knee to hip:
-The Dragon Reborn, Robert Jordan.*
-The Vintner's Luck, Elizabeth Knox.*

Note:
Soon I will be setting up a community on LiveJournal, and possibly a mirror on Dreamwidth, for unorthodox challenges. For example, reading height in books, knitting your weight in yarn, watching your height in DVDs, read around perimeter of room, etc. If you are interested, then let me know so I can poke you with a link sometime soon.
The comms have been created! [livejournal.com profile] readheightetc/[community profile] readheightetc. It's not just reading your own height, either. Anything goes, like I said.
