The BBC's series of Robin Hood just finished its second season. Some people really, really hate it, due to historical inaccuracy, a high level of modern political correctness, the fact that Marian is a bit plump -- and any number of other things. I have nothing to say to them apart from this: you're missing out.

On the other hand, people are newly railing against it [spoiler alert] )

...I just had to say that.

This is a gathering together of various ideas and things I've said about this.

Yesterday someone on [livejournal.com profile] robinhoodbbc posted this, with news that one of the characters is going to be a traitor next season. This makes me pout, because I love them all and love the dynamics they've got doing. If the BBC gets it wrong, there will be hell to pay. Um. Sort of. I will hate them with all the hate not already concentrated on the movie-that-doesn't-really-exist.

Anyway, I've been reading other people's reactions and me and Lisa talked about it quite a lot yesterday, so I'm sort of ready to put my thoughts together on the subject.

Who would work with Gisborne against Robin? )

I'm worried about what the next series will bring, with this, though. Is it going to be an overarching plot? The last season wasn't terribly good with that: most of the plots were self-contained, apart from the romantic subplots. And the idea of having a traitor in the midst is rather serious for a relatively light hearted series. I'm hoping the writers learn to tread lightly with this one and build up to it, rather than bludgeon us with it in one single episode.
