Quality: Barely checked
Characters: Gippal, Nhadala
Notes: Has the same backdrop as a roleplay with [livejournal.com profile] feywood, but will probably have a (slightly) different plot.

"You're crazy," Nhadala said. Her voice sounded flat -- Gippal mentally adjusted a gauge, cursing the bad link.

"Idealistic," he corrected. "You need to get some better implants. You could let me mod you."

"Not all of us like being more machine than human," she said, with some distaste. "You're full of all kinds of crap you'll never need."

"You're talking like a Yevonite. It doesn't have to be useful to be interesting. Someday I'll send you the schematics on my last few updates -- you'd be surprised at how gorgeous the designs are."

"Modest as ever," she said, dryly. "I guess there's no stopping you signing up for the Crimson Squad, anyway?"

"None," he said. He raised a hand to touch the eyepatch, brushing his fingertips over the cool smooth leather. He stopped abruptly when he realised what he was doing, wondering if her link quality was good enough for the visual element. "That thing can be destroyed, and I'm going to figure out how to do it. The Yevonites will be getting implants too -- they can't keep being so prejudiced when they're transhuman too."

"I've never understood why you don't have your nanomachines work on that eye. You obviously don't have any aversion to the technology."

"It's a reminder," he said, simply. For a moment he caught a flicker of the visual element -- Nhadala's expression somewhere between sad and frustrated, though the interface goggles hid her eyes.

"You're going to die, you know. It won't do our project any good."

"Don't be so pessimistic," he said, and broke the link before she could say anything further. He brought the application up in his mind one more time, and then finally linked up with the right computer and added it to the queue before blinking away the virtual environment. He crossed his fingers. "Here goes nothing," he said, aloud, and grinned to himself.
