wilderthanYesterday I finally finished my multi-chapter fic, Loyalty (The Dark Is Rising, no real pairings, one semi-OC). Originally when I wrote that the intention was to write something plotty, something I could really sink my teeth into writing. Although if you see subtext there, it's likely no coincidence. >>;
Anyway, as I was finishing up the last chapter, I was wondering about where I thought the characters would go.
Simon was actually feeling very guilty for making things harder for Will by being so scornful at the beginning. If Will hadn't gone off at the end, there'd have been some awkward apologies (something I think Will wanted to avoid, which is part of the reason why he went off). In fact, I think if Simon had had chance, he'd have asked Will if he could go along with him. And in my head, Will says, "Not until you're a doctor. Then, we'll see. Decide then."
Which, of course, is why Barney stops everyone following Will, because Simon and Jane would want him to stick around, while Bran would understand and let him go. Barney also knows that Simon would want to go with him, so in my head he's trying to keep his brother closer to home a while longer.
If I were to write a sequel to Loyalty, Simon would almost definitely follow Will. He'd probably get in the way, a la the Doctor's companions in Doctor Who, more than he helped, but Will would be fond of him and would keep him close by and safe. If it was only Simon, Simon/Will would probably result. Although it also seems probable that Bran would follow Will too, in which case I see Simon and Bran bonding and getting together -- because they have more things in common with each other than with Will, really. Although I see Simon/Bran/Will as possible too.
As for Barney -- I see him as not terribly interested in anyone. In my head, he becomes more and more involved with painting -- although he also helps Will out by Seeing for him whenever Will really needs a hand. And Jane, well. After her experiences with Mordred, I think she'd distance herself from Will and even from her brothers.
And John... I think he'll always be there for Will and Bran, if either of them need him, but he's too old to go gallivanting off fighting the Dark whenever it rears its head. He's also got some adjusting to do, since he's remembered what Blodwen really was. In my eyes, Owen helps with that -- and Owen himself is happier now for the closure he got with Guinevere. Though worried, of course, about Bran.
There's a part of me that says Owen and John get together, but then the Bran in the back of my head goes "o_o ewww", so I'll spare him. :p
As for plot, well. I haven't got that so much in mind, but I know where all the characters would be going interaction-wise.
Anyway, what thoughts? Anyone interested in reading the sequel? I know most people who read my TDIR stuff are either there for the genfic or prefer Will/Bran, though. I should really get round to writing my epic Simon/Will fic and converting some people. Or maybe I'll convert the Simon/Bran/Will RP to fic. :p

Date: 2007-12-19 08:40 pm (UTC)I like the fact you have worked out what happens next and where they go, and as I said in my feedback of the main fic, it didn't feel finished, like it did need an epilogue or something, but I suspect a bit of that was me looking for the Will/Bran closure which probably is not going to happen.

Date: 2007-12-19 08:45 pm (UTC)I was originally tempted to do little snippets of 'potential' futures. I think I'll probably end up leaving it as is, though. I did find it interesting to think through their futures, but I'm not as enthused about writing about that as I was about Loyalty itself. xD
