Witch's Canyon, by Jeff Mariotte, is maybe the best of the three books. It doesn't try too hard to characterise Sam and Dean, mostly focusing on the job, and revealing bits and pieces of them at times. It's still not great, but I liked it better than the other two. The plot felt very much like a Supernatural episode, although it did have the advantage of having much more time to build up. I kind of felt like the forty-year cycle wasn't adequately explained, even if it was caused by a bitchy witch, but it was fun.

I know it's realistic that people are stupid, but really, some people in this book took the cake. Still, there were a couple of characters I got to quite like for trying to help the boys: namely Baird and Juliet.

Still a quick, relatively trashy read, but fun all the same.

I can't believe I've never actually read Peter Pan until now. I'd seen the Disney version, but this is both more charming and more sinister than that. There are lots of sweet little details, like mothers tidying up their children's thoughts, and the kiss on the corner of Mrs Darling's mouth.

But Peter is a monstrous sort of figure when you get past the romance of Neverland. He's a wild boy, selfish and cocky. Instead of being a kind of example of innocent childhood, he almost brings to mind the boys from Lord of the Flies. Near the end, it says that he nearly stabs Wendy's baby! And he steals other children.

Of course, the moral of the story is that children need mothers. It's just charming enough to get away with the moralising.
