If you read CaitlĂn R. Kiernan's LJ (greygirlbeast) for a while, you kinda get the idea that the main character of The Red Tree is based on her own experiences and that's the feeling I got from the novel. Not that it's a bad thing. When I read it, I got an eerie feeling from it myself - mostly because of the unanswered questions and because the beginning fictional editor's note implied that there were going to be unanswered questions. Then again, I had read it about a month after it was released.
Though, it was eerie when I read the fictional editor's note and realized that the date on it is in the future, rather than in the past. It's not true anymore now that the date has passed, but it was a weird experience.
