Review - Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog

If you haven't seen it, and musicals are at all your taste, go and see Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog now while it's still online, seriously. In summary: I think it's really brilliant. I'll veer away from spoilers here, but I wanted to at least say something outside of friends only lock.

The songs are all brilliant. Particularly "Freeze Ray", the ones that open and close the second act, and "Slipping" and "Everything You Ever" from the third act. Or, well. You know. All of them. I've got the fan-ripped soundtrack right now, and I love it very, very much.

The characters are amazing considering that it's an internet musical that lasts about forty minutes in total. Dr Horrible is so awesomely adorable. The plot is pretty predictable, particularly if you know Joss Whedon's tendencies, but it's still awesome. It's funny and heart-rending by turns! In forty minutes.

I didn't know how to feel about the last act, but really, I think it's amazing -- the last song clinches that.

I'm going to buy the DVD, when and if it's available. If it's out on the UK iTunes ever, I'm going to buy it there as well -- the only thing I've ever wanted to use the video part of my iPod for. If there's an official soundtrack, it's mine.

In the meantime, I might have to bittorrent it once it goes offline, because I love it so much.

I was a bit hesitant to watch this since I was not into Buffy and Firefly was okay, but didn't really catch my attention. I'm glad I did. Neil Patrick Harris was excellent as was Nathan Fillian. The irony and tongue in cheek feel gave it just the right edge. As a geek myself who has stumbled over how to meet someone I liked I could appreciate Billy's POV.

I've never particularly been into Buffy, either, though I have endless adoration for Firefly (but then, it's the sort of thing my dad loves, so... I was raised to like stuff like it!). I was reluctant to watch Dr Horrible because, well, internet musical? But heeee.

My sister is going to kill me if I sing Freeze Ray one more time.

Ha, thank you for that. My torrent hunt last night was not all that successful for some reason.

Probably took the people downloading a while to convert the files. I was actually fairly surprised it was already up.

Someone on my flist got act I torrented almost immediately. It's amazing the speed people get this done.

I'm not sure if that is amazing or frightening.

Although the tracker for the one I'm downloading has disappeared with equal amazing speed.

(I guess I'd understand Joss & co coming down hard on this, since they've done everything at their expense so far, and it might hurt DVD sales... but from everything I've seen, even people torrenting it are planning to buy the DVD and the soundtrack and a t-shirt and god knows what...)

I totally would. There is always a percentage that will just pirate but it's good advertising esp if they add extra goodies to the DVD you can't get from the webcast.

*chuckles*

Mr. Whedon is full of surprises, and it's always good to see Nathan Fillion again. Neil Patrick Harris = Bonus points!

I think my parents are going to kill me if I say one more word about it, so I had to fangirl somewhere...
