Open to the floor - Memething

There's a meme going round that looks quite fun, so, voila.

Name a character that you know I write or have written, and I'll tell you:

a. What initially prompted me to like the character enough to write about him/her.
b. One of his/her best traits.
c. One of his/her worst traits.
d. How easy/difficult I find it to write the character.
e. The story/thread/chapter/post/paragraph/tag/phrase where I feel that I truly captured the character.
f. My plans (if any) to write the character in the near future.

Feel free to ask about quite a few characters, it can't be that hard a meme to answer. Also, if you like, you could ask me this, too -- g. Why do you pair [character] with [character]? Obviously you'll have to give me the character name you want me to answer for and the character I 'ship them with that you want to ask me about.

Bran from Dark is Rising.

a. I have to admit, it's a reasonably shallow reason. He's Welsh, and I'm Welsh.
b. His best trait is probably his loyalty -- to the Light, to Will, to Owen.
c. His arrogance.
d. Very easy. Sometimes it's kind of hard to strike the right balance for his attitude towards people, but even his worst trait makes him fun to write.
e. I like the way I wrote him in Chiaroscuro. I remember enjoying writing him especially in Loyalty, particularly chapter three.
f. I don't really have anything planned, except a vague plan to pick up a fic I started but never finished, in which Bran believes Will is dead, and then they meet again...

Being Welsh gives you a place to start in understanding him. As much as I adore Bran I feel like I can't get a handle on how to write him part for that reason.

Yes, it does help that I understand why Welsh people are the way they are toward English people. It... doesn't seem very logical to many people (particularly the Saeson), given that we've been a conquered country, one way or the other, for hundreds of years, and haven't even had a prince of our own blood since Llywelyn the Last in the 1200s! But at times I feel much the same way as Bran does about Wales (less so, because I was raised in England), so that part of his character is very easy to write.

The fact that you can and do capture that part of him is what makes your Bran feel so real to me. While I can understand it intellectually to get inside his head and really know how his passions is something I can't seem to do.

There's also the issue of hiraeth, with Welsh people, which is an untranslatable word for a feeling that, according to my parents, only the Welsh understand (certainly the English people I know don't). It sort of means homesickness, and it also means a love of the land, a longing to be in Wales. I can imagine Bran feeling hiraeth very strongly -- I should play with that more, too.

He is very connected to the land between working it and his heritage I would be surprised if that wasn't a big part of who he is.

a. I wanted to explore why he followed the sorceress.
b. He's sure of himself.
c. Too sure.
d. Pretty easy. Depends in what kind of story. Sometimes he's kind of painful to write, if I'm writing him as completely fucked in the head!
e. Oh god, too many to count.
f. None, at the moment.
