I think Batman differs depending on the writer sometimes. Frank Miller is a writer I tend to avoid personally considering some of the pretty assholish things he's said.

That being said, I actually read Batman for his Rogue's Gallery rather than for the superhero. Which means I get pretty picky as to what I read there because I'm not too terribly fond of the Joker, though I do like Harley.
